The City of Geneva has approved a text of an initiative which will pedestrianize a large section of the city centre.
The idea is to ban cars from an area from Bel-Air to Rive.
The move was rejected by the Liberal and Geneva Citizens Movement parties – but they were outvoted, led by the Greens.
Those opposed say there isn’t enough parking spaces to close off the centre – but others said Geneva is the last Swiss city not to have a pedestrianized centre.
The next step is a feasibility study which will cost almost CHF 3m.
