Geneva teachers who work in the Orientation Cycle are striking for a week, protesting at demands from the Cantonal Education Office to add in two extra 45 minute lessons a week from 2027.
The teachers, who work with students aged 12 to 15, complain that this will eat into the time they have to prepare lessons and talk with parents.
Under the banner ‘School is Expensive, try ignorance’ staff are demanding a rethink. They say the canton is unwilling to enter into talks.
The canton says the move is an effort to save money and bring the Geneva system closer to other schools in the country.
