In Geneva, the canton has decided it needs to take a far more hands-on approach to roadworks.
The recent spate of roadworks has been infuriating drivers over the last few weeks and they're now demanding action. The canton is also concerned about access and response times of emergency vehicles.
In addition, retailers say the works are affecting trade.
The canton is setting up an office to co-ordinate roadworks and take a more flexible approach to how the works should be carried out.
Already, several works that were scheduled over the summer have been postponed.
Authorities also accept the time work is taking needs to be reduced. That will likely mean more night work and talks with unions have already happened – the canton says those have been positive.
There’s also a plan for what’s being called ‘sudden action’. This would involve shutting down larger sections of roads – which would be more disruptive – but with the aim to finish the work faster.
