In Geneva, voters have also showed their displeasure at the proposals put forward by the government.
They rejected plans to cut primary school teacher training by a year, from 4 years to 3.
Geneva is the only canton that has a 4-year programme, every other canton trains its teachers in 3.
Education minister, Anne Hiltpold, points out Geneva hires dozens of teachers from other cantons who have had three years of training.
Voters also said no to a tax cut for wealthy entrepreneurs. Voters backed the left wing and rejected the idea by over 58%.
The Finance Minister, Nathalie Fontanet, says 1% of entrepreneurs pay two thirds of the wealth tax and if some of them leave, it will have an impact on public services. She says ‘they create jobs and feel misunderstood.’
The results are a clear rejection of the policies by the generally right-wing Council of State.
