Geneva votes more than any other canton

Geneva voters are called to the ballot box more times than any other canton.

There are 6 local issues people will be asked their opinion on later this month.

That’s much higher than the national average.

The newspaper, Les Temps, says since 2018, 40 cantonal laws have been pushed to a referendum compared to four in Valais and only one in Vaud.

The trend of forcing popular votes on cantonal laws seems to have picked up speed from 1996.

Since that time, Geneva voters have been called out 70 times, compared to 60 in Basel-Country, 41 in Vaud and 38 in Zurich.
