Starting today and for the next 7 days, its Romansch week.
It’s a week to promote and highlight Switzerland’s fourth official language.
It was this week in 1938 a national referendum elevated the status of the language to ‘official’ and it is the start of an annual celebration.
The initial idea was to have lectures and discussions about the language across the country - but due to Covid, it’s moved online.
Although it is the least spoken language in the confederation, it’s in fairly good shape. Canton Graubünden says 14% speak it as a first language.
But still the main mode of communication remains German with 76%. 10% speak Italian.
Graubünden is the only tri-lingual canton.
