As predicted, holiday makers were stuck for hours at the southern end of the Gotthard Tunnel yesterday afternoon as the long weekend break came to an end.
Queues began to build at around 11am – but the height of the jam was at around 6.30pm with 15 km of stuck traffic and around a 3 and half hour wait time.
There was even a half hour wait at 1am this morning.
This year’s Easter jams were far worse than pre-pandemic 2019, showing many people are still staying local for their breaks.
The traffic service Via Suisse says it expects jams at the tunnel to continue at peak times for the rest of the week.
