Govt allows US humanitarian overflights during Iran war

Three American military aircraft involved in the war in Iran have been granted permission to use Swiss airspace.

The Federal Council made the decision during a special session on Saturday.

One maintenance flight and two transport aircraft are allowed to fly over Switzerland.

But, requests from two reconnaissance aircraft were rejected.

The government says those flights would have had a direct military purpose linked to the conflict.

Bern says it will continue approving overflights only for humanitarian, medical, maintenance or transport missions, in line with neutrality laws.
