Motorists travelling between Nyon and Geneva on the A1 autoroute could not have failed to have noticed new green coloured pillars being set up along the road.
There are 34 in total.
It’s part of a plan being put together by the Federal Roads Office to prevent jams.
They will eventually hold large electronic signs which will signal temporary speed limits and provide information to drivers.
The system is already being used in the German speaking areas and has reduced tailbacks by 60%.
It will be rolled out in others areas over the next few years – one of the next sections will be around Lausanne.
