Heavy snowfall across central parts of the country brought chaos, cancelled trains, blocked roads and children building snowmen on the autoroute.
Drivers reported being stuck on the autoroute around Lucerne for more than four hours. Pictures sent to the press show a child making a snowman in the middle of 4 lanes of stopped traffic.
Snow falling in the lowlands reached over 20cm – those figures come from measuring stations in Zurich and Basel.
Countless trains last night were cancelled - and Swiss Federal Railways say it will lead to more cancellations and late running services this morning.
