Very heavy snowfall in some areas of the country cut villages off, closed roads and raised avalanche warnings immensely.
Several areas of canton Valais were affected, some reports suggest a meter of snow fell over the weekend.
Even the southern canton of Ticono was affected - heavy snow fell along the mountains, some even down to the plain, say locals.
The southern areas were hit the hardest, although there was snow in the Bernese Oberland - not nearly the same amount.
