High speed luxury crime wave

Aftermath of Bursins chase (c) Kapo VD

It’s a high-speed crime wave tearing through Vaud and Geneva.

For weeks now, stolen luxury cars, snatched from dealerships in German-speaking Switzerland, have been racing toward France at night, hitting speeds of nearly 200 km/h.

Police have launched dramatic chases, even across borders.

One pursuit ended with a fiery crash and arrests near Bursins.

The drivers are often underage and mainly French nationals. It’s thought they’ve been recruited by mafia gangs. Their aim is to get the cars out of Switzerland as fast as possible.

High end car dealerships and owners are being warned to keep their keys safe. They’re often taken during the day and then the car stolen at night.
