Professional tattoo artists are warning of a worrying rise in people tattooing themselves – normally while having a few drinks.
It seems to be a trend that has built up during lockdown.
Cheap tattooing machines are available online. Phil Mülhauser from the Swiss Association of Tattoo Artists says young people then arrange a party with a few drinks and start to tattoo each other.
Unsurprisingly, the next day many regret their decision – and then turn to the professionals to get it removed.
One specialist in Morges says he’s seen an increase in those seeking help. He says he recently helped a 19-year-old woman who’d had her hand amateurishly tattooed.
There are also concerns about hygiene. Experts fear a possible transmission of diseases such as hepatitis.
