In what could be seen of a sign of things to come, a hotel has contacted those who have already made bookings to announce there will be a surcharge on the room rate to cover the higher cost of electricity.
One contacted the 20 minutes newspaper to say he’s now being charged an extra 5% - although he made a booking more than 2 months ago.
The hotel on the shores of Lake Sempach in canton Lucerne told the paper that they have had an electricity bill in July which was 8 times higher than the same time last year. The managers point out, if the price of power falls, then the supplement will also fall – or disappear.
