Hunter faces fine for shooting llama.

A hunter in canton Schwyz is facing a large fine after shooting a llama which was protecting a herd of sheep.

His mistake was compounded by not immediately reporting it.

The cantonal hunting service say they only heard about the incident when journalists called to ask for details.

Hunters are supposed to have passed an exam to make sure they can tell the difference between different species.

Llamas are sometimes used as herd protection animals as they will walk towards a wolf instead of fleeing. This normally frightens them off.
