The Geneva Socialist Party wants to help those tenants who live in poorly insulated property.
It argues those are under a particular disadvantage as most of the money they’ll be spending on heat will be wasted – and they have little control over what they can do to fix the situation.
Which is why there’s also a second part to the plan – owners of badly insulated homes will be taxed higher until renovations are complete.
The level of tax will be determined on how much heat is wasted.
There will be exemptions for older buildings or those which can’t have too much work done on them due to heritage status.
