Many people around the country are taking matters in their own hands to help Ukrainian refugees.
Two individuals are being highlighted by the press this morning. One man in canton Solothurn has flown in 140 children with their mothers and is housing them in a children’s home in the canton.
The entrepreneur, Guido Fluri, says the government isn’t doing enough and he felt he had to act.
He chartered a plane to bring them to Switzerland and says the children were traumatized. He says one child on arrival asked if it was safe to get off the plane.
He’s also hired psychologists, social workers and a Ukrainian teacher.
In canton Fribourg a hotel manager is offering rooms to those in need. Sergey Valioulin has Russian roots and his son is currently in Moscow – he says he condemns the war. His hotel is owned by a company which has Russian investors. He says the owners gave the immediate go-ahead to help the Ukrainians.
