An initiative launched by the Geneva Citizens Movement to limit state jobs to those who live in the canton has been partially invalidated by the State Council.
It believes the wording of the initiative violates higher law and notes there are already some provisions in the law for certain roles that are reserved for residents – such as senior police officers and those working in the naturalisation department.
The State Council adds the timing of the initiative is poor as a shortfall in many roles is being predicted.
It was signed by 7,400 people.
