A new initiative has been launched to make the process of getting a Swiss passport easier.
The group Aktion VierVierTel says everyone has a right to participate and anyone living in the country should be able to take part in society and be recognised as a full member of the community.
It points out that 2 million in Switzerland are unable to vote.
The initiative says any child born to Swiss resident parents should get a passport automatically, and those who have been living in Switzerland for five years and have a basic knowledge of a national language should also qualify.
Parliament has consistently rejected calls to make naturalisation easier.
