There are fears the opioid crises which has gripped the United States could be coming to Switzerland.
So far, this country has escaped large scale effects of the drug, but some drug users are saying it’s becoming more common – according to reports in the 20 minutes newspaper.
There are added fears addicts may turn to synthetic opioids as heroin production is slumping. The Taliban in Afghanistan has banned the growing of poppies – which heroin comes from. A report from the BBC suggests cultivation has fallen 80%.
This might not be the good news that it appears to be. Frank Zobel from Addiction Switzerland told the Blick newspaper that addicts may turn to the far more powerful Fentanyl.
