The idea of a new crossing for Lake Geneva may have made a small step forward after the Geneva State Council sent a document to Bern outlining the idea.
The need of a crossing has been accepted by voters. In 2016, 62% accepted the initiative.
Any crossing will be designated a national route, so the majority of the funding will have to come from the Confederation – the amount is being estimated at almost CHF 5bn.
Whether the project will be accepted won’t be known until 2023.
