Kitesurfers want to be free to use Lake Geneva for their sport – but there are several restrictions.
Although allowed under federal regulations, there are many local rules designed to protect bird species and beach usage – those rules are normally set by the commune.
Fans of the sport would like a space on the lake where they can surf freely and dedicated land area they can start from.
The Geneva Council of State is reacting positively to the request – which was accompanied by a 500 name petition.
No time frame has yet been given for the rule changes – but for the time being, the lake police are tolerating the practice.
