Lake waters warming warning

The waters of Lake Geneva are warming at an alarming rate, which could have devastating effects on the local ecosystem.

The warning comes from the International Commission for the Protection of Lake Geneva Waters.

Researchers point out record breaking summer highs and low average rainfall means the surface temperature of the lake is consistently above monthly norms.

The commission says the current situation is satisfactory, the waters are clean and the local ecology is healthy – but pressure is mounting.

There are also warnings the drinking quality will also suffer as warmer waters will mean more algae and bacteria.
