Emergency services launched a large-scale rescue attempt yesterday in Geneva after a person was seen in difficulty in the Rhone.
More than 25 rescuers were involved at around 4.30 yesterday afternoon.
The witness who raised the alarm says they saw an arm extending out of the water.
Helicopters, speed boats and divers were all called into action.
After 45 minutes of no sign of anyone in trouble, the search was suspended.
