The Federal Councillor Albert Rösti visited the works at Lausanne train station yesterday – saying he’s happy with the progress that’s being made.
The development has been hit with a series of delays over the last few years – but now work is going on in earnest.
It’s a massive task – costing nearly CHF 2bn – the station’s capacity will be doubled at the time of its completion, estimated in 2037.
But there’ll be some improvements before that – in two years a new underground car park will be opened and part of a new basement complex for the Place de Gare will open in 2032.
Rösti says he’s confident the deadlines will be met.
