Lawyers are fighting for the rights of a puppy which they say is being held in illegal conditions by the Geneva Cantonal Vets Office.
The puppy – a miniature pinscher named Freddy - is being held in quarantine as he has been imported from Moldova, which is considered a rabies risk area.
Freddy has been in isolation since June 8th. Lawyers say that’s against the law and dogs have the right, under Animal Welfare Laws, to have regular contact with people and other dogs.
The canton points out the puppy was brought into the country illegally and came in from eastern Europe in a box. The journey was 30 hours non-stop.
