Geneva residents are being urged to leave the orange and white small boxes that have appeared across the region alone.
They’re being used to measure vibrations from the ground as part of a project to explore the viability of geothermal energy in the canton.
20,000 of them have been left at various points, triggering confusion and bemusement from locals.
But they’re being disturbed - leaving significant gaps in the data they’re collecting.
Each box has a GPS unit, so they can be found. One was even thrown at a recent football match.
The boxes are being moved now in to central areas of the city, increasing the chance they will be interfered with.
The surveying team are now using patrols to make sure the boxes aren’t moved or stolen.
