Parliament is due to hold a vote today on extending the covid laws.
Although this country ended all covid restrictions in April this year – the government wants to keep the emergency powers it has been granted for another two years. They’re due to expire at the end of the year.
It would allow ministers to bring back the need to show vaccination certificates before entering buildings or even the country. It says it wants the powers so it can react quickly if necessary.
But opponents say they will trigger a referendum if Parliament grants the government’s request.
