Researchers at the Cantonal Hospital at Sankt Gallen say the risk of suffering from long covid is lower for those infected with the Omicron variant than the original virus.

The results are due to be presented to a major European conference next month.

Patients suffering from long covid symptoms were studied to find out how they were originally infected. It was found those with the original virus were 67% more likely to have long-covid than those with a later variant.

Over 1,000 subjects from eastern Switzerland took part in the study.
