One man has been found guilty and two others acquitted following a fatal cable car accident in canton Schwyz in February 2020.
A cable on a snow groomer caught the hanging chair and tore it from its support. The four people on board fell to the ground. One was killed and the others seriously injured.
The victims had been returning from an evening meal on a mountain top restaurant. It had been especially reserved.
The court ruled the driver of the groomer was not to blame as he hadn’t been told the chair lift was still operational, normally at that time it was closed for the evening.
Another man was also acquitted as the court decided his role was irrelevant in the case. But the chair lift manager was found guilty as he should have told more people about the late running of the lift.
He’s been given a 10-month suspended prison sentence – he will have to pay CHF 20,000 in fines and costs.
