Mask wearing compulsory at HUG again

Mask wearing at the University Hospital in Geneva is compulsory once again – but it’s not because of covid.

Medics are trying contain a measles outbreak.

Currently there have been 5 cases in adults. There are hopes the outbreak is under control.

The virus is particularly virulent; it can stay in the air for two hours after an infected person passes through.

Children are better protected as its likely they’ve been vaccinated.

In adults, the disease can be serious leading to pneumonia, encephalitis and brain damage – and one in 3000 could die.
