The largest swimming pool in the country – some claim the biggest in western Europe – will open up this weekend after more than a year of renovation.
The pool at Weyermannshaus, just outside Bern, is 16,000 m2 – more than twice the size of a football pitch. If you walk around the sides, it’s almost half a kilometer. It was first built in 1958.
Before the renovation, it was losing 300 tonnes of water a day through leaks.
Fixing the pool cost CHF 35m.
It will officially open on Saturday – with many other municipal pools.
