Disgraced outgoing Geneva politician, Pierre Maudet, came in second in the first round voting for the cantonal Grand Council.
The vote will now to a run off next week.
Maudet is running as an independent after being sacked by his party for accepting gifts from the Abu Dhabi royal family. He’s also been convicted of wrong doing by a court.
The Green Party candidate, Fabienne Fischer came in first with 29.7% - and is now favorite to win the run off.
But there has been some surprise at the strength of Maudet’s result and his supporters say they will continue to campaign for a win.
