A breakdown in communication between friends is likely to cost rescue services thousands.
Late last week, Air Zermatt was called out as three climbers had gone missing on the Matterhorn. The alarm was raised by their friends who had come off the mountain earlier – but had lost contact.
While helicopter teams scoured the mountainside – the missing climbers were found by police in a nearby multistorey car park.
Air Zermatt says they would always prefer to have a happy ending to a search – but since no one was in danger, it’s unsure who will pay. The company says it maybe unrecoverable.
