The Mont-Blanc Tunnel needs major renovation – but authorities are battling with the best way of doing it.
One option is to close the tunnel completely for over three years – or for three months every year for the next 17 years.
The final decision will be made by the commission in charge of the tunnel made up of representatives from the French and Italian governments.
More than half of the tunnel’s roofing needs to be replaced.
