The Mont-Blanc Tunnel will be closed from 5pm on Monday for more than three months to allow for major renovation work.
The work had to be put off due to the closure of the Gotthard Base Tunnel following a derailment and then a landslide on the A43 autoroute – an important link between France and Italy.
The Base Tunnel will reopen on Monday after more than a year of repairs.
Alternative routes during the Mont-Blanc Tunnel’s closure are being suggested. Trucks should use the Fréjus tunnel, cars can take mountain passes.
