More people are leaving Switzerland than at any time in the past decade.
By August, over 68,000 people had emigrated, according to the Zurich Cantonal Bank’s real estate barometer. Combined with lower immigration, Switzerland’s population is now growing more slowly than last year.
The decline in net immigration could ease pressure on the rental housing market in big cities.
Most emigrants are Swiss citizens, followed by Germans, Italians, Portuguese, and French.
Economists say weaker job growth and a cooling economy are also factors, as more skilled workers choose to return home.
