Switzerland is dealing with a growing wave of fuel thefts.
According to the newspaper, 24 hours, around 70,000 drivers fill up and drive off each year without paying, with canton Vaud reporting the highest number at about 10,000 cases.
Western Switzerland is particularly affected.
Proximity to the French border also makes it easy for offenders to slip away.
Operators in German-speaking Switzerland report fewer incidents but say they routinely pursue unpaid bills, filing charges based on licence-plate video.
