Chickens are fast becoming everyday pets in Switzerland, with around seventy thousand households now keeping them, according to federal authorities.
Breeders say sales are up by nearly half.
They say buyers are drawn by fresh eggs, as well as the added benefit of garden fertilizer and reduced food waste.
It’s also reasonably cheap to keep chickens - a hen costs around 30 francs and coops and feed are also cheap.
