Mother jailed for kidnapping

A mother from Biel has been jailed for four years after kidnapping her children and taking them to Tunisia.

The woman was divorced from the father   when she took the three children to Tunisia. He was unaware where they were, or even if they were alive. 
She stayed hidden for more than a year – living illegally in the north African country.

She was eventually arrested by Tunisian police and sent back. 

A regional court in Biel first sentenced her to a suspended prison term. But prosecutors appealed the light punishment and now a cantonal court says she’ll have to serve 4 years locked up.
