Many Geneva car owners will be familiar with the regular vehicle check at the Service des Autos in Carouge.
Depending on the age of the car – they must pass a technical test on a regular basis. Geneva is one of the few cantons that doesn’t outsource this to third party companies.
The Swiss People’s Party says that should change and has tabled a motion to allow private companies to carry out the tests. They say it will save the canton around CHF 150m a year and drivers will be able to get a test booking closer to their home.
They add the current office will have to move as the lease on the land expires soon.
