La Chaux-de-Fonds is testing a resident-only 'super-app' built on top of its local currency
The app, long used to pay in local shops in the city's own currency, now carries a news feed, a citizen card and offers at municipal cultural and sports venues.
The city is looking for 500 residents to join the pilot of the citizen card, which confirms personal information to unlock services.
The council hopes to add event tickets and subscriptions over time.
The hope is that the app boosts local commerce, civic engagement and a sense of belonging in the city.
