Researchers at ETH Zurich say they’ve developed a gel which counters the negative impact of alcohol.
It converts alcohol in the body into harmless acetic acid before it enters the bloodstream. Studies in mice shows it cut blood alcohol levels by 50% and protects the body from damage.
It's thought people who don’t want to give up alcohol, but also don’t want to damage their body would be interested.
Or those who don’t want the intoxication – they could take the gel before having a few drinks and sill drive home.
But it won’t sober you up. The researchers say once the alcohol is in the blood stream it’s too late.
