Maybe the Geneva World Cup Fan Zone is not quite dead yet. The Liberal Party in the City of Geneva is proposing a smaller scale version to run only during the playoff stages.
A larger event has been cancelled as the organisers say they were receiving hate mail and advertisers were boycotting it.
The Liberals say there should be a smaller version on the Vernets ice rink car park and are asking for CHF 180,000 to help fund it.
Instead of advertising, the proposals suggest any commercial space should be given to human rights organisations, such as Amnesty International, to highlight the abuses in the host country of Qatar.
