New ice rink design unveiled

The new design of the ice rink for Servette Hockey has been unveiled.

The canton launched an architectural competition nearly two years ago for a new home for the reigning Swiss and European Champions.

The winning design is based around a wooden frame with a dome and solar panels. The cantonal minister, Antonio Hodgers, called it magnificent.

The new stadium will be able to hold more people – currently 7,000 are able to watch a game live – but when finished, another 1,500 will get seats.

There’ll be new VIP boxes, a restaurant and lounges.

There’s also space for a smaller second rink to be used by schools and clubs.

It’s hoped the new stadium will open in 2028.
