If you’ve entered the country through the airport recently, you may have noticed several new machines in the immigration area being kept, literally, under wraps.
They’re the new self-service machines for travellers from outside the Schengen zone.
They were supposed to be in operation next week, but delays in other countries mean they’re going to be gathering dust for sometime yet - despite more than CHF 8 million being spent on them.
The machines would check passports and take fingerprints from those entering and leaving the passport free zone.
They were supposed to be working two years ago – but France, Germany and the Netherlands say they’re not ready.
