Mobile phone rates could rise due to a new government regulation.
The Federal Council says it wants the phone companies to install emergency generators to make sure the service is maintained during power cuts.
The idea, which is now under consultation, says operators must make sure the service can run for three days without power from the grid.
The Federal Office for Communications is estimating it will cost CHF 150m – those costs could be passed to users.
