Swiss Post has fired a 60-year-old postman after he refused to leave parcels in apartment lobbies.
The man spent more than four decades at the company, says he kept carrying packages upstairs because building thefts were frequent, even though new internal rules tell posties to drop parcels in the entrance hall when a digicode blocks access.
The union Syndicom is backing him and calling the dismissal abusive and disproportionate, given his 42-year record.
Swiss Post says he ignored repeated warnings and rejects any suggestion the decision was linked to his trade union activity.
The case may end up at an employment tribunal.
