Pediatric emergency care in the Geneva region is being scaled back, raising concerns about pressure on hospital services.
From February, the Geneva Society of Pediatrics will reduce the opening hours of its on-call service, which is staffed by volunteer doctors.
Weekend consultations will now run only from midday until seven in the evening.
The change follows the introduction of a new national fee schedule, which no longer compensates doctors for emergency work during weekend mornings and evenings.
Pediatricians warn the cutbacks could shift more patients toward Geneva University Hospitals, with an assessment planned in the coming months.
