The City of Zurich has an ambitious plan to hit its net zero targets by 2040.
The idea is to capture CO2 generated by sewerage treatment plants, liquify it and pipe it more than 1000km north to be buried in the seabed.
Carbon emissions from the plant is 2% of the city’s production. The plan will cost CHF 35m and could be in place by 2028.
Currently the only countries using the technique are in Scandinavia.
The city’s Parliament still has to vote on the idea.
